Andrew Cuomo plans to sign into law a bill creating what is likely the first of two possible legal challenges to the way in which Veterans Administration is treating millions of disabled veterans. The bill, called New York State Veterans Incentives Enhancement Act, is an amendment to the state constitution, which could change how the law might be challenged. It would give certain injured veterans from other states in which the law is on books special, more flexible and costly treatment. "Allowing us to challenge it would give the veterans an opportunity to make sure our veterans have fair access to healthcare regardless of where they live," said Chris Schrimpf, a spokesman for the State Committee on Veterans. While the legislation was crafted in response to a lawsuit filed by the Associated Press on behalf of veterans who say they were improperly treated for a variety of conditions at Veterans Affairs facilities, opponents say other states could come crawling back to claim they also have grievances. Some argue there are flaws in the compensation process that state. "We don't feel that we have the right to discriminate, not recognize the need or to not bring compensation for those veterans in other jurisdictions for those injuries that we don't experience," Schrimpf said. Cuomo, who has been a lead advocate for the injured veterans, said Monday he was going to sign the bill. Schrimpf would not provide details but said in some cases those receiving the special treatment would be receiving a $10,000 benefit — the most available to some and the price of a small home in New York City. When asked if he supported that particular provision – he has not expressed an opinion of the bill to local press, but said he had been briefed by officials on the process – he replied: "We think that's an important provision. … The veterans here (in New York) … should not have to go through this again and be on the outside of things trying to figure out what does it mean."     Tip of the Week : Bending Steel = Increased Strength Endurance

    Each week we publish a number of tips and techniques via Twitter, the blog; and the newsletter. Wherever you are, there’s always a way to improve what you’re doing.
    A friend of mine asked me over the weekend why I bend things. It’s partly because it’s fun, and partly, well, I’ll let Adam explain.
    There are many great reasons for bending things, as Unbreakable‘ Adam Glass notes in the article Why Bend Steel? Apart from the simple ‘because it’s downright fun‘ :
    The increase in strength and power naturally will carry over to an increase in your endurance. Anyone who has bent a nail will tell you the first time they bent it was so tiring. I have watched people sweat bullets bending their first respectable nail. As time goes on you gain huge reserves of power. A personal testament to this level of power for me was October 2007 when I bent 150 60D nails in one hour using the double under (DU) grip. That represented a massive improvement from Jan 2007, when bending 10-15 nails left my hands extremely fatigued.
    Good stuff.

    Unlock Your Hips, Unlock Your Squat I get a lot of questions regarding the impact of ‘unlocking your hips‘ on heavy squatting. Rick Kaselj goes into it in plenty of detail in the ‘Unlock Your Hip Flexors‘ program; and I’ve also posted a brief video below which demonstrates/explains some of the exercises.
